Mote Lon Ma Yar (Husband & Wife Snack)
The name Mote Lon Ma yar means husband and wife. It’s named this way as two crispy cups are combined to make one snack. It takes 2 to complete one just as a couple. It’s made of a light batter with soft centre and chickpea inside with crispy outside shell. Once you start munching on these you just can’t stop! This can be eaten as main or entrée before meals.
|Fine Rice Flour||150g|
|Chickpea Powder||2 Tablespoons|
|Olive Oil||4 Tablespoons|
|Sesame Seeds||2 Tablespoons|
|*water is for Mixing batter|
1 hour ahead – mix rice flour, tempura, chickpea powder, ¼ Teaspoon of salt and water , set aside.
Preparation, chop spring onions, strain water, rinse under running water for canned chickpea. Get your molded pan ( I got mine from Asian grocery store ) , chopstick, long handle spoon, brush ready
Heat the pan evenly, brush with oil, pour the batter into individual mould just over half but not full. Top up with chickpea and chopped spring onions. Cover it up for 1 minute. When it gets crispy outside, scoop one and close it to another one like a lid. Brush with oil regularly to make sure it cooks evenly. Once it all cooked both sides and inside, you can place them onto plate.
While cooking, we can prepare sesame salt, bliss sesame seeds and ¼ teaspoon of salt, set aside.
This snack is pretty popular in Yangon and because of its light batter and crispy outside, it is one great snack for any occasions. You can dip it into sesame seeds and sip warm green tea for better combo.
