How are you spending your Australia day?

14 years ago, I was a young girl (I’m still young, just not that young) with big dreams to go abroad. While choosing a university, my parents wanted me to go to Australia rather than US at the time as I have my auntie’s family living in Sydney. My cousin gave up her room to accommodate me to feel home and I still feel very touched by an 11-year-old child’s generosity. They warmly took me under their wings as a daughter and sister and to this day I’m very grateful for their love and support.

Australians are beautiful people, very warm, welcoming with much love to offer. I have met amazing people and now call them my friends and family. My love of good food has blossomed in Australia. After travelling across the world, I am convinced that Australia has one of the best selections of cuisine, it’s almost impossible to find such high-quality food across so many different cultures anywhere else. Quality can also range from premium fine dining to local gems and family restaurants. Match this with the endless natural landscapes, beaches and unique wildlife diversity make Australia a place I love.

So today I’ll be reflecting on how lucky I am. I’ll be paying my respect to indigenous Australians, elders past and present, who are the custodians of the land for over 65,000 years that we all call home. I’ll also be taking up the suggestion of Christopher, a young boy I met at a market in December who tasted our Tea Sauce and Sunkissed Crunch and said to me that it would go great with BBQ meats such as lamb or chicken. We know kids can be fussy eaters, so I was intrigued by his suggestion. Australia day my own way, ditch the tomato sauce for tea sauce at our BBQ!
